Shutdown and remove disk hda. After system boot shutdown again und remove the other disk. The system have to boot with only hda or only hdc.

If you use raidtools you will now see the problem
You can also start a bonnie test to see that the raid1 is not so slow you may expect. And make sure that you don't hang 2 disks on the same IDE Bus (a cdrom des not matter).
